“Baby, it’s cold outside” would be a good theme song for Stewart and Connie’s cozy wedding at Silcox Hut, perched high on the flank of Mt. Hood.  However, icy gusts were no match for warm hearts and warm wishes at this wonderfully simple wedding celebration. We appreciated that Connie and Stewart were game to be outside for pics–it was sooooo cold. Connie was  adorable in her white fur shrug, and Stewart accessorized with the smile of a happy, happy man.

About 30 friends and family gathered by the big fire in the hut to celebrate with this sweet couple as they tied the knot, and then after, toasted the newlyweds to the music of 3 leg torso. After cocktails, the entire party rode down the hill in the giant snow-cats for more celebrating over dinner in the Raven’s Nest at Timberline Lodge.

Heidi collected the vintage blue glass jars that were used in the centerpieces. And she also crafted the cutest little crossword puzzle for their programs, with clues and answers from her and Trevor’s romance. Super sweet and incredibly personal. The are also the only couple I’ve ever met who had a OSU ring pillow! (Go Beavs!) Check out the slideshow for photos of those sweet details.

This wedding unfolded like a perfect summer day. Rush and flutter at first, then everyone coming together in for a meaningful ceremony and finally settling in for a delightful evening’s celebration. Mollie’s father gave the sweetest toast, then Ryan’s brother, in the dual role of best man/poet, read a moving tribute to love that still has me smiling. Finish the whole thing with a romantic swirl on the dance floor….call it a perfect day.

Mollie and Ryan, thanks for having us along as your photogs. I’m so glad we could steal you away in the vineyard for 10 minutes–those pics are my most favorite of the day.

John had the relaxing opportunity to photograph Aihab and Jennifer for more than an hour after the ceremony. In a horse-drawn carriage, they rode to the park blocks, Keller fountain, down to the waterfront and finally back to the Crown Ballroom for a grand entrance. Aihab led Jennifer in one of the best first dances I’ve ever seen. If you take a look at the slideshow, check out the photos for their sharp footwork.

So when you take chemistry and overlay a spectacular setting the result is pure beauty. The day was perfect, the light was clear and bright, spirits were high and everyone was happy.

Rebecca: thanks for not breaking an ankle in the field. You guys were good sports to traipse out there with us. Hope you didn’t get too many stickers in your socks! Thanks for having us with you on your sweet, sweet wedding day.

Finally–all the ingredients for a perfect Saturday wedding came together for us two weeks ago with Vesna and Ratko at the Aerie. Nice weather, beautiful sunshine, gorgeous bride, handsome groom, agreeable families & friends, lovely venue. What more could a photographer ask for? It’s especially nice for John and I because each of our last several weddings had some unexpected weather hitch: either too hot, or too cold, or too wet. We were practically giddy shooting in this setting in the yummy light.

My favorite part of the day was the time we had with Ratko and Vesna alone before all the craziness began. Their affection for each other is sort of contagious. Ratko telegraphs with every action how much he loves and adores Vesna. And Vesna, even though she looks like a tiny fair-haired angel, projects the impression that her feelings for Ratko are strong and enormous. I appreciated that they were patient with our silly requests to move this way or that, or smile like this, or chin this way. I love the results–my favorite portrait of the two of them is the one in the lower right corner above.

I bonded with Jill over the phone, since she engaged us from her hometown in Indiana. Together we envisioned the ceremony at Skamania’s gorgeous outdoor amphitheater and cocktails in the garden. Who would have predicted that Oregon would have an excess of sunshine? Uncharacteristically, the outdoor venue was simply too hot for comfort.

Everything was seamlessly migrated indoors, where Jill and Tom’s ceremony took on a lush and enveloping feel. Low light, candles and the small group gathered close made for a meaningful wedding mass, conducted by Jill’s uncle.

Afterward, family and friends celebrated, dined and danced with the couple. Many of their good friends had traveled halfway across the country to share in the celebrations. My favorite part was the few minutes we had with Jill and Tom in the fading light after dinner. I love how happy they look and how the light seems to be surrounding them for this short time alone. Minutes later, they were on the dance floor, doing the steps for the first time as a married couple.

Emily is graceful, lovely and gracious. Colin is warm, charming and handsome as all get-out. So you can imagine what a pleasure it was for us to photograph the two of them. It’s risky to describe something as “perfect”, but I daresay, everything I look for in a wedding was there. A crazy-in-love couple, a fun group of wedding attendants, an adorable flower girl, loving and connected families, a lush green setting, and even a handsome Labrador to dispatch the ring.

Typically, I take some time and select my 10 or 12 favorite images to post here to give a preview of the day. However, this time I’m driving myself cuckoo because there are simply too many favorites to choose from. There’s my “pretty” favorites, my “classic” favorites, my “oh-i-love-that-one” favorites.
